A note from the founder of Gluten Free Cup of Tea & Co-Founder of The Makery Studios
As a mom of a daughter who has been living with celiac disease for nearly a decade, I know how much we want our kids to have experiences where they can just be kids—without feeling different, being left out, or always having to think about whether something is safe for them.
That’s one of the reasons I created a Celiac-Friendly camp option at The Makery Studios, our hands-on cooking and creative camp for kids ages 6–13 in Encino, Los Angeles.
I wanted to create the kind of camp I would want for my own daughter—somewhere she could walk in and feel like she belongs. Our groups are small, and Celiac-Friendly campers are teamed up with another gluten-free child during cooking activities, so they can learn, cook, laugh, and create together.
Something that’s especially important to me is giving kids with celiac disease the chance to meet other local kids who get it and hopefully make a new friend along the way.
My hope is that they leave camp having learned new cooking and real-life skills, gained confidence and independence, made something they’re proud of, met a new friend, and most importantly, felt completely included.
Hope to see you at The Makery!
Warmly,
